“They’re so serious,” the caterer whispered to Alfred. “You’ll find a note of sarcasm and some good-natured ribbing here and there but, yes, quite serious on the whole,” Alfred replied. “I guess … I guess I expected that, when they all got together, there’d be more stories and laughter,” the caterer continued. Alfred chuckled and gave the signal for the staff to refill beer and wine. “Some are dour and somewhat difficult by nature,” Alfred said, pointing with obvious affection to Batman. “And some have seen too much battle to be jovial,” he added, gesturing carefully towards Wolverine. “Others are not from around here and look at the world entirely differently,” he continued, selecting Superman and Thor with a subtle inclination of his head. “Still others have to focus on building and protecting their image,” he finished, adding nothing more. “Their image?” the caterer prodded. Alfred smiled, ordering more bread to the table. “That one,” he said, looking directly at Doctor Strange, “has a laugh like a wheezing hyena.”
