Renaissance

Renaissance

"So ... it would seem that I am, in this century at least, a "renaissance man"," Dracula said to his wives (as they sat relaxing after dinner in front of the fire in the great hall). "I was around during the Renaissance after all." His wives sat motionless, two of the three frozen with a stitch for their handicrafts hanging in mid-air. It was the second who eventually looked up and spoke. "A "renaissance person" is one who is multi-faceted, courting expertise in many disciplines and balancing many life goals. Their energy is directed broadly, with experience taking the place of laser-like focus; they are the jacks of all trades - accepting the likelihood that they may be the master of none. They evolve expansively, changing rapidly and unpredictably, and typically grow accepting of failures along their journey as the destination still tantalizes." "Yes, exactly!" Dracula agreed enthusiastically. "I've changed so much over my 1000+ years!" The wives said nothing, staring at him in the firelight. He stared back. "I find your silence hurtful," he whispered (after some moments had passed), and the one who was still looking at him simply nodded before she returned to her work.
