The policeman escorted her inside, going very slowly and carefully; she beamed at him and held her purse. "Oh, hey, Mrs. McElderry" the clerk at the front desk called out with a small wave. "Hello, George," she greeted him sweetly and then moved to the bench to sit down. "Officer?" the clerk inquired. "Mrs. McElderry was at the bus stop this morning," he began. "I wanted to go downtown and see all of the Christmas lights!" she interjected. "Uh ... she intended to take the 15 downtown to see Christmas lights ... when three young men ... ," he clarified. "Miscreants," she corrected him (still smiling). "Yes ... uh ... three youths began to harass Mrs. McElderry using rude language and gestures." "Tell them about the music," Mrs. McElderry encouraged, leaning forward. The officer sighed. "She reports their music as being vulgar and extremely loud." The clerk grinned from ear to ear, nodding right along. "Action?" he prompted. "Mrs. McElderry opened her bag, withdrawing a small taser; she switched it on without being noticed, and dropped them in a kind of sweeping motion," the officer finished (looking down so that he didn't laugh). "The victims?" the clerk asked. "Too embarrassed to issue a statement or press charges. Others at the bus stop reported the incident as a matter of public welfare," the officer finished. "Noted," the clerk said, making note of absolutely nothing. "Action?" he whispered across the desk. "Let's just let her sit here for 30 minutes and then drive her home. Maybe go through downtown and let her see some lights," the officer said. The clerk nodded, not asking to see the taser. They never did anymore.
