White

On Wednesday, over tea and toast, they simultaneously arrived at Being Over It Definitively. Mr. White had never worked directly at the manor (preferring horses to people), but Mrs. White was still the head housekeeper there and the job had only gotten worse over time (what with the constant traffic of the evil and odd plus the number of suspicious deaths growing). The last straw was the arrival of Doctor Orchid, who seemed overly focused on Mrs. White and covetous of her position. White had rolled her eyes for years over Peacock's penchant for imaginary drama and Scarlett's tawdry self-promotion to anything on two legs (or four, perhaps; one could never be sure), but Orchid's muddling about had her hackles up daily. He pacified Plum; he giggled with Green; he manipulated Mustard to include Mrs. White as a main character in the man's delusional tirades. "But no one knows the big house like you do," her husband whispered softly that evening (after thinking on it most of the day), "and no one has a key to the labyrinth below the house but you." "Accidents happen," she whispered in reply. "A candlestick in the conservatory; a lead pipe in the library ... " He nodded and the mood shifted quickly to the positive.
