They watched from a distance, having written, “You better be lightning” by the cafe door (in chalk) and, “Hurry to breathe” at the county services building and, “I will find you in the garden” at three different bus stops. Some didn’t read, and some read with derision or disregard (disregard was the hardest to understand), but some cried. And to the cryers much was given in the way of blessings, both large and small, for they loved life enough to suffer through it and, to a poet, that was the whole point.
