Project

Project

The developer walked around the property. He assessed, did the math, envisioned and adjusted, did the math again, and wondered why he felt so hesitant; it was prime real estate and it was a deal (abandoned for years). The house looked back when he looked in; it watched him in the yard (amused when you could see the frustration set into the jawline and the shoulders). "That's right," it dust-whispered in the attic and creaked in the hall downstairs, "you just move along." Eventually, the developer did move along and, ultimately, passed on the project (blaming "other priorities" for his decision). The house, relieved, continued to sit and think its own thoughts undisturbed; some structures were obsessed with people, practically waving from the street trying to get attention while others pulled back into a long-awaited silence and dreamt of revolution.
