Overachievement

Overachievement

"In a nutshell," Management said, getting right to the point, "no, you cannot skip ahead a couple of scrolls and just "get the thing done"." He took a loud breath, deeply annoyed. "I don't see why not; it's not like the scroll is going to change ... tomorrow's retrievals are today's promise." "Understood - and your desire to be efficient and even overachieve is appreciated," Management responded carefully but firmly, "however, the answer is still no. The ending, as a rule, should not be rushed." "Even for good reason?" he pressed, feeling that if he had hackles, they would be well and truly up by now. "A good reason is less of a concern than who is deciding ... and, might it be added, why they have taken it upon themself/ves to decide," Management lobbed into the discussion (effectively ending it). "Fine," Death said (standing up). "I'll just continue to tick through the lists at a snail's pace while being ridiculously and eternally over the bullshit." "Great," Management reacted, looking Death in the eye until the angel turned away. "You do that." "How'd it go?" the other angels asked in the break room when he'd returned. "Fuuuuuuuuck," Death seethed on the exhale and they all nodded.
