Relocation

Relocation

Dorothy was not a good fit for all things Kansas after she: was catapulted through the wind portal to Oz (her explanation) or had a significant mental health event (everyone else's explanation). She packed a bag, grabbed the dog, and hitched rides going anywhere away; Dorothy relied on the generosity of strangers when it felt genuine and stole from general stores when it did not. The east coast felt different when she and Toto arrived, and it was more than the sea air; they lingered in a rented room and then settled in Essex County, Massachusetts, working a lucrative hustle taking in laundry and offering tailoring/repairs. There was a privacy you were entitled to when you lived in Innsmouth, and Dorothy could finally relax. She felt certain that the tornado would continue to look for her to force a return, but this place was under the rule of water and it was advisable not to assume it'd be welcome. Smile at the tourists, stay indoors after dark, treat the bloodstains with gall soap for 24 hours before attempting a wash, and don't push your luck with the water.

Credits: characters of Dorothy and Toto with context references from "The Wizard of Oz" by L Frank Baum (1900). References to Innsmouth and atmospheric elements from the work of H. P. Lovecraft (circa 1931).
