Cake

It was decided that the local constabulary would be sent to the bakery as a way to personally decline their participation in the show and also conduct a welfare check. It was the video of the beating jelly heart in the cake cadaver's chest that raised the chefs to the very pinnacle of the judges' esteem but proved too horrifying for television; in truth, no one desired to see it in person let alone slice it to sample, so their application was rejected. When the police arrived at Cake & Bone, it was vacant - more than vacant, there was nothing on that lot but thorn brush and trash. "Bake Off" confirmed the address and asked them to go out again, but the request was spurned without explanation. It was tempting to send them the report about how the detectives had pushed through the waist-high weeds to find a spot cleared the size of a dinner plate. In that place was a delicate handmade macaron, green grey with a black center, a large marzipan tooth shoved into the top trimmed with jam to look like blood. Calls to the number on the application reached a recording of a scream that fell to silence and then disconnected.
