The meeting continued (through several presentations that could have been an email [but for the reluctance to put them in writing]), focused entirely on new policies, procedures, and non-disclosure agreements. Lansing had decided that today was his last day before the lunch break, but waited until he'd consumed two chocolate croissants and the Q&A portion (some random few minutes at the end before dismissal) had arrived; it was fairly obvious that no questions were anticipated. He raised his hand and then stood up. "Yeah - great," Lansing started (to the amazement of all management and staff gathered), "but I'm wondering if you would clarify whether we're in a company or a cult. It's not entirely clear and I think it's key. Who are we protecting ... and why? What's around the corner that you're trying to get ahead of, while force feeding hushed compliance?" There was silence, which Lansing was more than happy to fill. "Is it the Halford thing? The inappropriate treatment of interns? Is it Mitok's misuse of the company car and credit card? Is it Banwell's embezzlement? Come on, guys. You funny." He gestured dismissively and turned to walk out. "I'll just go pack my desk, shall I?" he offered, grinning, and gave the thumbs up to the dozen or so who did the same.
