Disregarded

Disregarded

It was 2614, in the first year of the reign of Poran II (Poran the Disregarded), that the first decrees of Former Invisibility were made: that all who toiled unrecognized would be brought forward - that the ones who worked reliably without recognition would have their names entered into the city scrolls to be certified and compensated for the lack of interest shown in their station(s). Those deemed less than would be welcomed to more and the audacity of a vapid, corrupt society to engage in endless self-promotion would come to naught, forever broken on the wheel of what was right and just. Reserve educators would earn the same wage as that of a company manager; a home carer the same as an urgent care provider; an artist the same as an athlete. The decrees were challenged in other reigns, but none were abolished, for any actions against them revealed the proponent as contemptible and contrary in setting themselves against what had been seen as overdue and accepted as fair (something understood by the reigning to shorten both service duration and life).
