At the banks they gathered, far from where the media had safely congregated, tying themselves to trees before going down to the shore. And there, in hope and respect and honor, they blessed the raging waters, called forth help from the very mud itself for the safety of survivors and the comfort of travelers. They were teachers and entertainers and librarians and helpdesk team leads; they were doulas and nurses and farmers and priests. Teetering on the edge of a swirling oblivion, calling life to the shore, bidding farewell in the deep, they blessed the raging waters, sending peace ... offering help ... sending peace ... offering help ... sending ...
