Generosity

"You're very generous," he commented, "seeing as how that atrocious person has been your enemy for ages - positively ages. To send them flowers now that they're back from the hospital ... well, darling, I must ask: are you mending fences? Are you changing your ways?" She turned to look at him, eye contact direct but unreadable. "Oh, my dear, I never said the flowers were sumptuous in color, smelled fabulous, or - for that matter - were even alive. I never said that the card wished her well or wished her a speedy recovery on 'getting work done'," she replied (and then gestured to herself). "Leopard. Unchanging spots. Shall we?" And they adjourned to the parlor, to their favorite settees, and cocktails that were blood red in color.
