And then they drove, with two blankets and pillows in the back (next to a grocery bag that held bottled water, Kleenex, a couple of rolls of toilet paper, a monster bag of kettle corn, and some aspirin), grateful for a multitude of forgettable mercies (like the "Find My Friends" app) and the miracle of connection at the heart of it all.
